Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival Transfer by Private Car

The Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival (Aspendos Opera ve Bale Festivali) is staged in the Roman theatre of Aspendos, built in the 2nd century AD and one of the best-preserved theatres of the ancient world. Watching opera or ballet on its original stage, under an open sky, is an experience many visitors to the Turkish Riviera plan their holiday around.

The theatre stands a few kilometres inland from the coast near Serik, between Belek and Side. Performances are usually held on summer evenings, but the programme, dates and performances change every year, so check the official programme for this year's dates and venues.

From Antalya Airport the theatre is about 32 km away, roughly 49 minutes by road. The route follows the D400 highway east towards Side, then turns inland near Serik to Aspendos.

• Belek and Kadriye: a short drive east along the D400.
• Side, Kumköy and Manavgat: west along the D400, then inland.
• Lara and Antalya city: east along the D400, past the airport.
• Kemer: a longer drive through Antalya and along the D400.

On performance nights there is a lot of traffic around the theatre. The driver drops you at the nearest accessible point or parking area, from where it is a short walk to the entrance, and meets you at the agreed spot afterwards.

Performances start in the evening, when the heat of the day has eased, and usually finish late. Arrive early: you have time to find your seat and enjoy the theatre in the evening light.

Useful to bring:

• A small cushion – the seats are ancient stone steps.
• A light jacket or shawl for later in the evening.
• Comfortable shoes for the uneven old stones.
• Water, especially in midsummer.
