Belek is a purpose-built resort area on the coast east of Antalya, best known as Turkey's golf capital. Several championship courses sit among pine forest behind a long, wide sandy beach, and the shoreline is lined with large all-inclusive resorts that stretch towards Kadriye in the west and Boğazkent in the east.

The area attracts families who want a beach holiday with everything on site, golfers who come for a week of rounds in spring and autumn, and couples looking for a quiet, green setting. Part of the beach is also a known nesting area for loggerhead sea turtles, which is one reason the coast here feels less built-up than the town centres further east.

The distance is roughly 35 km and the drive normally takes about 40 minutes, depending on traffic and where exactly your hotel is. The route follows the main coastal highway east towards Serik and then turns off onto the resort roads that run parallel to the beach.

How your arrival works:

• We track your flight, so a delay does not cost you anything and the driver adjusts automatically.
• After passport control and baggage claim, your driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name.
• He helps with the luggage and walks you to the vehicle parked nearby.
• You ride privately, with no other passengers and no detours to other hotels.

Because the journey is short, Belek is one of the most comfortable transfers from the airport, even after a late-night landing.

Most visitors stay in the resort strip along the beach, where hotels sit side by side on private plots behind the sand. The western end towards Kadriye is closest to the airport, while the eastern side towards Boğazkent is a little further and quieter. The small Belek town centre, a few minutes inland, has shops and cafés but few large hotels.

The driver takes you to the main entrance of your hotel, not to a shared drop-off point, so you can step straight into reception.

Belek is a good base for some of the region's best-known sights, all within easy reach by private car:

• Aspendos, with one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world, is a short drive east.
• Perge, an ancient city with a long colonnaded street, lies between Belek and Antalya.
• Köprülü Canyon, popular for rafting, is reached through the foothills of the Taurus Mountains.
• Antalya old town (Kaleiçi) and its harbour make an easy half-day trip.
• Side and the Manavgat waterfall can be combined in a longer day out.

For the way back, plan to reach the airport about 2.5 to 3 hours before an international flight, and check your airline's advice. With a drive of around 40 minutes, a pick-up roughly 3.5 hours before departure is usually comfortable. For a 14:00 flight, for example, we would collect you at about 10:30.
