Dalaman or Antalya: the numbers side by side

Both airports can get you to this stretch of coast, but the distances are not equal:

  • Dalaman to Patara: about 121 km, around 135 minutes
  • Dalaman to Kalkan: about 127 km, around 135 minutes
  • Antalya to Kalkan: about 215 km, around 200 minutes
  • Antalya to Patara: about 225 km, around 210 minutes

That is roughly an hour more in the car if you land at Antalya, on arrival and again on the way home. When flights to Dalaman suit your dates, it is the more convenient gateway. If Antalya works better for your schedule, we drive that route as well: see the Antalya Airport to Kalkan route and our separate Antalya Airport to Kaş and Kalkan guide, which describes that longer drive.

The road south from Dalaman

Leaving Dalaman, the road heads towards Fethiye and passes it, then continues south-east into the Lycian region. You do not need to plan anything for this part: the driver knows the way, and the vehicle goes straight to your address without picking up anyone else.

Close to the end of the journey the routes divide. Patara is reached by a side road off the main route, while Kalkan lies a little further along. That is why the two have very similar journey times even though Patara is a few kilometres closer.

On a drive of more than two hours, a short stop for the toilet or to stretch your legs is no problem. Just tell the driver.

Patara: beach, ruins and turtles

Patara is known for its long sandy beach and for the ancient city of Patara behind it. Much of the area is protected, partly because sea turtles nest on the beach. Visitors come here for space and nature rather than for a busy resort atmosphere. If you are travelling with children or older relatives, it is worth knowing that the last part of the journey is on a smaller road, so the driver will take it at an easy pace.

Because it sits off the main road, give us your exact accommodation address when booking so the driver takes the right turn-off. Live prices are in the table on the Dalaman Airport to Patara route page, and the Patara transfer page lists other routes.

Kalkan: a hillside town and its villas

Kalkan climbs a hillside above a small harbour, and many visitors stay in villas spread across the slopes around the town. Villa stays bring their own transfer questions. Narrow or steep access roads, gates and similar-looking properties mean a precise address matters even more than for a hotel.

  • Send the villa name and full address, or share a location pin on WhatsApp.
  • If your rental company gave you directions, forward them to us.
  • Tell us how many suitcases you have, as villa groups often travel with plenty.

Prices are shown on the Dalaman Airport to Kalkan route page; the Kalkan transfer page has the other connections.

Kaputaş and Kaş along the same coast

Kaputaş beach lies on the coast between Kalkan and Kaş, so many people staying in Kalkan think about Kaş as well. If you have not decided which of the two towns to stay in, our comparison Kaş or Kalkan sets out the differences, and the Kaş and Kalkan travel guide covers what there is to see in the area.

If you would like to see more of this coast during your stay, the same private service works for day trips: a vehicle and driver for your group, with the route agreed in advance. Ask for a quote the same way as for the airport transfer.

Which vehicle for a two-hour drive

The price is fixed per vehicle, not per person, so the choice comes down to space and comfort:

  • Minivan for 1-6 passengers.
  • VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito for 1-7 passengers, a comfortable option for a longer road trip.
  • Mercedes Sprinter for 8-16 passengers, useful for two families sharing a villa.

There is no luggage fee. Child seats are free on request; tell us the ages of the children so the correct seats are fitted.

Splitting one trip between two places

Some travellers combine a few nights near Patara with a stay in Kalkan, or begin their holiday around Fethiye and move on later. A private transfer handles this without fuss: we can collect you at one address and take you to the next, and then bring you back to Dalaman at the end. Book each leg when you ask for your quote, and you can change the times later if your plans shift.

If you are flying in and out of different airports, for example arriving at Dalaman and leaving from Antalya, mention that too. We serve both airports, so the whole trip can be arranged in one conversation.

Landing, booking and paying

At Dalaman your driver waits in the arrivals area with a name sign. We track your flight, and the waiting is free if it is delayed. There is no night surcharge, which helps when an evening landing is followed by a drive of over two hours.

Message us on WhatsApp or send an e-mail and you receive a fixed quote within 1 minute. There is no prepayment: you pay in the vehicle, in cash or by card if agreed when booking. Cancellation is free. For the return, agree a pickup time that leaves room for the full drive back to Dalaman plus your airline's check-in requirements, and keep a little extra margin in the summer season.
