Kalkan is a former Greek fishing village on the western edge of the Antalya coast, built on a steep hillside above a small bay and harbour. Its white houses with flat roofs and wooden balconies step down towards the water, and many of them now have rooftop terraces with views over the bay. The old quarter around the harbour is full of narrow lanes, small shops and restaurants.

Kalkan is best known as a villa destination: the hills around the village are dotted with holiday homes, many with private pools and wide sea views. The transfer from Antalya Airport (AYT) to Kalkan covers about 215 km and usually takes around 3 hours 20 minutes. The route heads west past Kemer, crosses the mountains to Kumluca and continues through Finike, Demre and Kaş. The final part, between Kaş and Kalkan, runs high above the sea past the famous Kaputaş cove and is one of the most spectacular coastal roads in Turkey.

Kalkan sits close to some of the finest beaches and ancient sites of Lycia. Patara, one of the longest sandy beaches in Turkey, lies just west of Kalkan, next to the ruins of the ancient city of the same name. Inland, the narrow walls of Saklıkent Gorge make a cool escape on hot days, and the remains of Xanthos and the Letoon, once important Lycian centres, are a short drive away.

To the east, the turquoise water of Kaputaş beach and the harbour town of Kaş are popular half-day outings, and you can continue to Demre for the Church of St Nicholas and the rock tombs of Myra. With a drive of around 3 hours 20 minutes, leave plenty of time on departure day. Aim to be at Antalya Airport about 2.5–3 hours before an international flight; check your airline's advice. For a flight at 14:00, for example, a pick-up from Kalkan at around 07:30 is a sensible choice.
