Kaş or Kalkan: the short answer

Both towns sit on the same stretch of the Lycian coast, roughly half an hour apart by road, and both are very different from the big all-inclusive resorts around Antalya. There are no long hotel strips here: you stay in small hotels, guesthouses, apartments or villas, and you walk to the harbour in the evening.

  • Choose Kaş if you want a lively little town with cafés, shops and restaurants around the harbour, diving, daily boat trips and things to do without a car.
  • Choose Kalkan if you want a calmer stay, a villa with a pool and a view, and dinners on rooftop terraces above the bay.

Many visitors combine the two: stay in one and spend a day in the other.

Kaş: harbour town, diving and boat trips

Kaş is built around a small harbour facing the sea and the mountains. The old streets behind the harbour are full of small shops, bars and restaurants, and the town keeps a relaxed, slightly bohemian feel. You will also see Lycian rock tombs and a small ancient theatre at the edge of town, a reminder that this has been a settled coast for a very long time.

The water around Kaş is clear and rocky rather than sandy, which is why the town is one of the best-known diving spots in Turkey. Swimming is mostly from platforms and small coves rather than long beaches.

The classic excursion is a boat trip to Kekova, where the ruins of a partly sunken ancient city can be seen from the boat in the shallow water. Boats leave from Kaş harbour; ask locally about the day's programme.

Meis (Kastellorizo) across the water

Directly opposite Kaş lies the small Greek island of Meis, known in Greek as Kastellorizo. It is so close that you can see its houses from the Kaş seafront, and a ferry connects the two. A trip to Meis means leaving Turkey and entering Greece, so passports and entry rules apply: please check the current requirements for your nationality yourself before you plan the day, and take your passport with you.

Kalkan, Kaputaş and Patara

Kalkan is a former fishing village whose white houses climb the hillside above a small harbour. It is known for holiday villas with private pools, quiet streets and restaurants with roof terraces looking over the bay. Evenings are calmer than in Kaş, which is exactly why many couples and families choose it.

Between Kaş and Kalkan is Kaputaş, a small sandy beach at the foot of a gorge, with turquoise water and steps leading down from the coastal road. It is one of the most photographed beaches in the region and easy to reach from either town.

Further west, Patara has one of the longest sandy beaches in Turkey and the ruins of an ancient Lycian city nearby. If you like long walks on sand and open space, it is a good day out from Kalkan.

Getting there: transfer from Antalya Airport

The drive from Antalya Airport (AYT) follows the coastal road west past Kemer, then through Kumluca, Finike and Demre before reaching Kaş, and then Kalkan. It is one of the most scenic drives in the region, with mountains on one side and the sea on the other.

  • Antalya Airport → Kaş: ≈ 200 km, ≈ 3 hours
  • Antalya Airport → Kalkan: ≈ 215 km, ≈ 3 hours 20 minutes

Times are typical; in high season, traffic around Antalya and Kemer can add time. Because this is a long transfer, a private vehicle makes a real difference: your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, flight tracking means a delay is not a problem, and you go straight to your hotel or villa without stops for other passengers. The price is fixed per vehicle and agreed before the trip, with no night surcharge and no luggage fee. See the live prices on the Antalya Airport to Kaş and Antalya Airport to Kalkan route pages.

For Kalkan, Dalaman Airport can be an alternative depending on your flight, so compare your flight options before you book.

Which vehicle for a long coastal drive

Three hours is long enough that space and comfort matter, especially with children or after an early flight.

  • Minivan (1–6 passengers): a practical choice for couples and families with normal luggage.
  • VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito (1–7 passengers): more comfort for the long road, popular with families and small groups.
  • Mercedes Sprinter (8–16 passengers): for larger families or friends sharing a villa, with room for everyone's bags.

Child seats are free on request; just tell us the children's ages when you book. More details are on our fleet page.

Booking and practical tips

  • Book via WhatsApp or the booking form, 24/7. Send your flight number, arrival time, the number of passengers and the exact address of your hotel or villa.
  • Villas around Kalkan and Kaş are often on narrow hillside streets: share the villa name, the exact location pin if you have one, and the owner's contact details.
  • You can book the return transfer at the same time.
  • Payment is in the vehicle, in cash or by card if agreed in advance; there is no prepayment.
  • Leave enough time for the return journey: with a three-hour drive, plan your departure from the hotel carefully and check your airline's recommended check-in time.
