Antalya in Winter: Off-Season Holiday Guide (November–March)

Antalya in winter is mild, quiet and noticeably more local: many beach resorts close or scale down, while city hotels in Kaleiçi, Lara and Konyaaltı and some large resorts stay open. It suits sightseeing, walking, golf and long stays rather than sunbathing, and airport transfers run exactly as in summer, 24/7.

What winter in Antalya is really like

Antalya has a Mediterranean climate, so winters are mild compared with most of Northern and Central Europe. You will get plenty of bright, sunny days, but winter is also the rainy season on this coast: expect some grey spells and heavy showers that can last a day or two. Evenings and early mornings feel cool, and the Taurus Mountains behind the city often carry snow on their peaks while the seafront stays green.

The sea is too cool for most people for long swims, so a winter trip is about the city, the countryside and the slower pace rather than the beach. The upside: no crowds at the sights, easy restaurant tables and a chance to see Antalya as residents do.

Which areas and hotels stay open

The biggest change in the off-season is how many places close. Many seasonal beach hotels in resort areas such as Side, Kemer and parts of Alanya shut between late autumn and spring, or run with reduced restaurants, pools and activities. Others stay open all year, often with a calmer programme.

  • City hotels in Kaleiçi, Lara and Konyaaltı generally operate year-round, because Antalya is a working city of its own.
  • Some large resorts in Lara, Belek and Alanya keep running, especially those popular with golfers and long-stay guests.
  • Small boutique and family hotels vary a lot from year to year.

Our advice: before you book, check directly with the hotel which restaurants, pools and services are open on your dates. A resort that looks lively in summer photos can be very quiet in January.

Where to stay in winter

For a short winter break, staying in or near the city makes the most sense. Kaleiçi, the historic old town, puts you within walking distance of the harbour, cafés and the old streets. Lara is close to the airport (≈ 14 km / 20 min) and has big hotels plus a long seafront. Konyaaltı has a pebble beach promenade that is pleasant for walks even in winter. Our guide to Lara, Kundu, Konyaaltı and Kaleiçi compares the four in detail.

Belek is the choice for golfers: spring and autumn are its busiest golf months, and several courses stay playable through the winter. Alanya has a long tradition of long-stay winter guests, many of them retirees who rent apartments for weeks or months. It is ≈ 125 km / about 2 hours from Antalya Airport; see the Antalya Airport to Alanya route for live prices and drive details.

Things to do in Antalya in winter

  • The old town and harbour: Kaleiçi's narrow streets, Hadrian's Gate and the old harbour are best enjoyed without summer heat. Our Kaleiçi and old bazaar guide has tips on getting there and around.
  • Museums: the Antalya Museum is known for its finds from the ancient cities of the region and makes an ideal rainy-day plan.
  • Waterfalls: the Düden and Kurşunlu waterfalls are close to the city and are often at their fullest after winter rain.
  • Ancient sites: Perge, Aspendos and Side are far more relaxed outside the summer season.
  • Hiking: winter and early spring are good walking months. Sections of the Lycian Way west of Antalya, for example around Çıralı and the Kemer coast, are popular day walks. Go with proper shoes and check the weather first.
  • Snow: Antalya has its own small ski area at Saklıkent in the Bakırlı mountains. Whether it is open depends entirely on snowfall, so check locally before planning a day there.

Airport transfers in the off-season

Fewer airlines fly to Antalya in winter, so you may have fewer flight times to choose from and some routes run only on certain days. For transfers, nothing changes:

  • We run private transfers 24/7, all year, with a fixed price per vehicle agreed before the trip.
  • There is no night surcharge, which matters because many winter flights land late in the evening.
  • Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and we track your flight, with free waiting if it is delayed.
  • Vehicles: Minivan (1–6), VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito (1–7) or Mercedes Sprinter (8–16), so golf bags and long-stay luggage fit easily.
  • You pay in the vehicle; no prepayment is needed.

You can book online or on WhatsApp and add the return trip at the same time. Golfers heading to Belek will find more on the golf transfer page.

Packing and practical tips

  • Layers: light clothes for sunny afternoons plus a warm jacket for evenings.
  • Rain gear: a compact umbrella or waterproof jacket is worth the space.
  • Indoor heating: many homes and smaller hotels rely on air conditioning for heating; long-stay guests should ask about this before renting.
  • Opening times: some beach restaurants and tourist shops close for the season, while the city centre stays busy. Check ahead for anything specific.
  • Shorter days: plan day trips and hikes so you are back before dark.

Is a winter trip to Antalya worth it?

If you want a beach holiday with warm sea swims, come between late spring and autumn. If you want sunshine on most days, mild air, quiet ancient sites, golf, walking or a long, calm stay away from a northern winter, Antalya from November to March is a very good choice. Pick a hotel that is confirmed open, keep a rainy-day plan, and arrange your airport transfer in advance so a late arrival is no stress.
