Dalaman Airport to Datça and Selimiye: Private Transfer Guide

Datça and Selimiye lie beyond Marmaris, on two quiet peninsulas that reach out into the sea. Getting there from Dalaman Airport is one of the longer drives on this coast, and the last part winds through hills. This guide explains the route, realistic timings and how to make the journey comfortable.

Where these peninsulas are

West of Marmaris the coastline splits into two long fingers of land. To the south is the Bozburun peninsula, where the village of Selimiye sits on a sheltered bay. To the west runs the long, narrow Datça peninsula, with the small harbour town of Datça partway along it and the ancient city of Knidos at its far western tip.

Both areas appeal to travellers who want somewhere slower and quieter than the big resorts. That calm comes partly from distance: neither is close to an airport, and the drive is part of the trip. Knowing what to expect on the road helps you plan your arrival day properly.

Stage one: Dalaman to Marmaris

Every transfer to Datça or Selimiye begins the same way. From Dalaman Airport the road heads west to Marmaris, about 96 km and around 95 minutes. This first part is the straightforward section of the journey.

If you are staying in Marmaris itself, or in İçmeler next door, your trip ends here. Our Dalaman Airport to Marmaris guide covers that shorter run, and the Dalaman Airport to Marmaris route page lists the vehicle prices. For everyone heading further, Marmaris is the point where the road divides.

Turning south to Selimiye

From Marmaris one road turns south onto the Bozburun peninsula. It climbs and twists through the hills before dropping down to Selimiye, a quiet village gathered around its bay. In total the transfer from Dalaman Airport is about 139 km and takes around 133 minutes, so a little over two hours.

The final part is the slowest, because the road bends constantly and the driver keeps a steady, careful pace. The reward is arriving somewhere that feels well away from the busy coast. Prices for each vehicle are on the Dalaman Airport to Selimiye route page, and the Selimiye transfer page has more about the area.

Heading west to Datça

The other road from Marmaris runs west along the Datça peninsula. Because the peninsula is long and narrow, the drive follows it for a good distance, with hills and curves along the way, before reaching Datça town and its small harbour.

From Dalaman Airport this is about 166 km, around 160 minutes, which makes it the longest of the drives in this guide: roughly two hours and forty minutes in total. There is no separate route page for Datça; ask for a quote on WhatsApp or by e-mail, or start from the Datça transfer page.

Visitors interested in history often make the trip out to Knidos, the ancient city right at the western tip of the peninsula, during their stay.

Comparing the two drives

If you have not yet decided between the two peninsulas, the journey itself is worth weighing. Selimiye is the shorter of the two, roughly half an hour less than Datça, and the winding part of the road is shorter too. Datça asks for more patience, since the road follows the narrow peninsula a long way west, but it gives you a harbour town as your base and puts Knidos within reach. Both share the same first stretch to Marmaris, so the difference lies only in what comes after it.

Making a long transfer easier

A drive of over two hours after a flight is very manageable with a little planning:

  • Arriving late? There is no night surcharge, and the driver tracks your flight, so a delayed landing does not cost extra. Waiting is free if the flight is late.
  • Prone to car sickness? Sitting towards the front and looking ahead often helps. Winding roads after Marmaris are the part to prepare for.
  • Travelling with children? Child seats are free; tell us the children's ages so the right seats are fitted before pick-up.
  • Lots of luggage? There is no luggage fee, but tell us roughly how many cases so we send a vehicle with enough room.

Before you head out of the terminal, our Dalaman Airport arrival guide explains what happens after landing.

Choosing a vehicle

On a longer journey, space matters. We use three vehicle types, and there are no sedans in the fleet:

  • Minivan for 1 to 6 passengers, a comfortable choice for couples and small families.
  • VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito for 1 to 7 passengers, for those who want extra comfort on the long road.
  • Mercedes Sprinter for 8 to 16 passengers, ideal for larger families or friends travelling together, such as a group sharing a villa or a sailing week.

The price is fixed per vehicle, not per person, so a full vehicle shares one price.

How booking works

Send your flight number, arrival date, number of passengers and the address or village you are going to. You will receive a fixed quote within a minute on WhatsApp or by e-mail. Nothing is paid in advance: you pay in the vehicle, in cash or by card if agreed when booking, and cancellation is free.

On arrival your driver waits with a name sign and takes you door to door, with no stops at other hotels along the way. All transfers run under a D2 transfer permit from the Ministry of Transport, with passenger seat insurance. If you plan to spend a few days in Marmaris before or after the peninsula, our Marmaris and İçmeler travel guide is a useful companion.
