What the Antalya Aquarium is

The Antalya Aquarium is one of the city's best-known family attractions. It sits in the Konyaaltı district on the western side of Antalya, a short walk from the long pebble beach that most visitors already know. Inside you follow a route past themed tanks with sea and freshwater life, and the walk ends in the part everybody comes for: a long glass tunnel under the water.

The aquarium is part of a bigger complex. There are other themed attractions in the same complex, but what is open changes, so check what is open and current tickets on the official site before you go. That way you can decide in advance whether you want only the aquarium or a longer visit.

The walk-through tunnel: what to expect

The tunnel is the reason the Antalya Aquarium is famous. You walk slowly through a curved glass passage while fish, rays and sharks move around you and over your head. For small children it feels like being under the sea; for adults it is simply a calm, impressive place to stand and watch.

  • Go slowly. The best moments come when a large fish passes directly overhead, so give it time.
  • Photos: the light is low and blue. Turn the flash off; it reflects on the glass and disturbs the animals.
  • Strollers: the route is mostly walk-through, but on busy days a carrier can be easier than a big pushchair.

Why it is a good rainy-day or hot-afternoon plan

Most Antalya holidays are about sun and sea, but there are always a few days when that does not work: a rare rainy day in spring or autumn, a winter stay, or a midsummer afternoon when it is simply too hot for the beach with children. An indoor aquarium solves all of these.

  • Winter and shoulder season: when the sea is too cool, the aquarium is one of the easiest outings in the city. See our winter and off-season guide for more ideas.
  • Summer: plan the beach for the morning, the aquarium for the hottest part of the day, and return to the sea in the late afternoon.
  • Children of all ages: toddlers love the colours, older kids like the sharks. Our tips on travelling to Antalya with babies help with the practical side.

Combine it with Konyaaltı beach

Because the aquarium is close to the seafront, it pairs naturally with Konyaaltı beach. The beach is long, open and backed by a promenade and park areas, with the Taurus Mountains rising behind it. A relaxed plan looks like this:

  1. Morning swim and breakfast at your hotel.
  2. Transfer to Konyaaltı and visit the aquarium.
  3. Walk to the beach and promenade for a swim, an ice cream or a meal.
  4. Return pickup from the seafront in the late afternoon or evening.

If you are staying in Konyaaltı itself, you may not need a car at all; ask your reception how far your hotel is from the aquarium. If you are still choosing an area, our guide to Lara, Kundu, Konyaaltı and Kaleiçi compares them.

Getting there from Lara, Kundu, Belek, Kemer and the airport

  • From Lara and Kundu: these resorts are on the eastern side of Antalya, and Konyaaltı is on the western side, so you cross the whole city. City traffic is the main variable; in high season and at rush hour, allow extra time.
  • From Belek and Kadriye: you first drive towards Antalya and then through the city to Konyaaltı. It is a comfortable trip, but plan it as a proper outing rather than a quick hop.
  • From Kemer, Beldibi and Göynük: you come along the coast road from the west and reach Konyaaltı before the city centre, so you avoid most of the central traffic. Of all the big resort areas, the Kemer side is the most convenient for the aquarium.
  • From Antalya Airport (AYT): Konyaaltı is ≈ 24 km and ≈ 35 minutes away. If you are staying in Konyaaltı, the airport to Konyaaltı route shows the live price.

Going by private transfer

For a family outing, a private transfer removes the hard parts: no waiting at bus stops with tired children, no changing lines in the city centre and no haggling. You travel only with your own group, and the price is fixed per vehicle, not per person, agreed before the trip and not changed for traffic.

  • Vehicles: Minivan for 1–6 people, VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito for 1–7, Mercedes Sprinter for 8–16, useful when two families go together.
  • Child seats: free on request; tell us the children's ages when you book.
  • Return: book the trip back at the same time and agree a pickup time and place, for example at the aquarium or on the seafront.
  • Payment: in the vehicle, with no prepayment.

You can send your hotel name, date and number of people on WhatsApp or use the booking form.

Practical tips before you go

  • Check opening times and tickets on the official site on the day you plan to go, especially outside the summer season.
  • Rainy days are busy, because everyone has the same idea. Going earlier in the day is usually calmer.
  • Bring a light layer: indoor attractions are often air-conditioned and feel cool after the heat outside.
  • Keep swimwear and towels in a separate bag if you plan the beach afterwards.
  • Agree your return pickup point before you go in, so you do not have to arrange it with children waiting.
