Your pickup time is easy to work out with one formula:
Departure time − time needed at the airport − drive time − buffer = pickup time
- Time at the airport: for international flights in high season, plan on about 2.5–3 hours. Check-in queues, security and passport control all take longer on busy summer days. Always check your airline's own recommendation, which may differ, and when check-in and bag drop close.
- Drive time: use the typical times below; they are for normal traffic.
- Buffer: add 15–30 minutes for traffic in high season, roadworks or a slow start at the hotel. Add more for long drives.
For a domestic flight you can usually allow less time at the airport, but again, follow your airline's advice.
