Babadağ Transfer: How to Get There by Private Car

Babadağ is the mountain behind Ölüdeniz on the coast of Fethiye, reaching about 1,969 metres above the sea. From its upper slopes you look straight down onto the Blue Lagoon, the long Belcekız beach and the coast towards Butterfly Valley. It is one of the best-known paragliding spots in Turkey: tandem pilots take off from the mountain and land on the beach of Ölüdeniz, so on a clear day you will see dozens of colourful wings in the sky.

A cable car now runs from the lower slopes near Ölüdeniz up the mountain, which means you do not have to fly to enjoy the view. Many visitors simply go up for the panorama, a coffee and photos, then come back down the same way.

Babadağ lies about 63 km from Dalaman Airport (DLM), roughly 70 minutes by road. The route follows the main highway towards Fethiye and then climbs over the hill through Ovacık and Hisarönü down to Ölüdeniz.

• From Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü and Ovacık the drive to the foot of the mountain is short.
• From Fethiye town and Çalış it is a quick ride over the hill.
• From Göcek or Dalyan it is a longer but easy drive along the main road.

We drop you at the nearest accessible point, usually the cable car lower station or the meeting point you give us. If you have booked a paragliding flight, the flight company normally takes guests up the mountain road itself, so tell us where they asked you to be.

In summer the morning is the clearest and coolest time for the view; the haze often grows in the afternoon, while the late afternoon brings softer light over the lagoon. It is noticeably cooler and windier at the top than on the beach, so bring a light jacket, sunglasses, sun cream and comfortable shoes.

Babadağ combines easily with a swim at Ölüdeniz and the Blue Lagoon, a walk in Fethiye old town, or the abandoned stone village of Kayaköy, only a short drive away. Paragliders usually spend the rest of the day on Ölüdeniz beach, where they land.
