Aspendos Transfer from Antalya Airport

Aspendos is an ancient city on the plain east of Antalya, close to the town of Serik and a short way inland from the Belek coast. It is famous above all for its Roman theatre, one of the best-preserved theatres of the ancient world: the stage building still stands to its full height and the rows of seats rise in a complete half-circle. Standing on the top tier and looking down to the stage is something most visitors remember for a long time.

A little away from the theatre are the remains of a long Roman aqueduct, whose arches cross the open countryside. In some summers the theatre also hosts the Aspendos opera and ballet festival, with performances on the ancient stage — please check the festival programme for the year you are travelling.

From Antalya Airport the distance is about 42 km and the drive takes around 46 minutes. The route runs east along the main coastal highway past the Belek turn-offs towards Serik, then leaves the highway for the short road to the ancient site. Guests staying in Belek, Lara, Kemer or Side simply start from their hotel instead: from Belek and Side it is a fairly short ride, from Lara a little longer, and from Kemer it is a proper half-day outing.

If you come straight from a flight, your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and helps with your luggage. We track your flight and waiting on delays is free, so an early or late landing does not spoil the plan.

Aspendos is not a place where you find a taxi waiting outside, so a private car with driver is the easiest way to visit. Tell us your plan and we tell you what is possible:

• Driver waits – you visit the theatre and the aqueduct at your own pace and travel on together afterwards.
• Return at an agreed time – useful for a festival evening, when you know roughly when the performance ends.
• Stop on the way – Aspendos as a stop on your transfer between the airport and a hotel in Side or further east.

Please bring water and a hat in summer: the theatre itself is shaded only in parts, and the walk up to the upper tiers is on old stone steps.

Many guests combine Aspendos with other sights in the same day. Perge, the ancient city with its colonnaded street and stadium, lies near Aksu between the airport and Aspendos, so the two fit together well. Side, with its harbour and temple ruins by the sea, is further east and makes a good end to the day for guests staying there. Families often add a beach afternoon in Belek, which is close by.

If you visit Aspendos on your way home, allow enough time: aim to be at Antalya Airport about 2.5–3 hours before an international flight — check your airline's advice. For a flight at 17:00, for example, you could leave your hotel in Side around 10:00, spend time at the theatre and still be at the airport by about 14:00. Book both directions together and everything is arranged in advance.
