Hisarönü is a resort village on the pine-covered slopes between Fethiye and Ölüdeniz, in Muğla province. A few decades ago it was a quiet farming hamlet; today it is one of the busiest holiday spots on this stretch of the coast, built around a lively main street of restaurants, bars, shops and evening entertainment. Ölüdeniz and its famous lagoon lie just down the hill, and the calmer village of Ovacık joins it on the Fethiye side.

The village is a favourite with British families and groups of friends who like having everything within walking distance: pool hotels, apartment complexes, plenty of places to eat and a beach only a short ride away. Being up on the hill, the evenings often feel a little fresher than down by the sea.

The transfer covers about 64 km and takes around 65 minutes, so you are usually at your hotel roughly an hour after leaving the terminal. From the airport the road heads east past Dalaman town, runs through the pine hills and the Göcek tunnel, and continues along the bay to the outskirts of Fethiye. From there it climbs through Ovacık to Hisarönü — the last part is a short, steady ascent rather than a long mountain road.

When you come out of baggage reclaim, your driver is waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name and walks you to the vehicle. We follow your flight in real time, so an early or late landing simply moves the pick-up, and waiting on delays costs nothing. A landing in the small hours costs the same as one at lunchtime, and there is no charge for extra suitcases or a pushchair.

Accommodation is spread across the whole village, so please send us the exact name and address:

• Around the main street – hotels and apartments within a few minutes' walk of the restaurants and nightlife.
• The quieter edges – family hotels with pools and holiday complexes a little away from the noise.
• The slopes towards Ölüdeniz and Kayaköy – private villas, many with their own pool, often on narrow lanes.

We drop you at the entrance of your hotel or apartment block. In the evening the main street can be crowded, so the driver may use the nearest side road for the shortest walk. For villas, a map pin on WhatsApp is the quickest way to the right gate.

Hisarönü is a handy base for exploring the Fethiye peninsula:

• Ölüdeniz – the Blue Lagoon and the long beach below the village, with tandem paragliding from Babadağ.
• Butterfly Valley – a secluded bay between steep cliffs, usually reached by boat from Ölüdeniz.
• Kayaköy – the abandoned stone village over the hill, also a popular walk from Hisarönü.
• The Lycian Way – the long-distance trail starts close by, and short sections make good morning walks.
• Fethiye – the harbour, the fish market and the Lycian rock tombs, a short drive down the hill.

The drive back takes about the same hour, which makes departure day relaxed. Aim to be at Dalaman Airport about 2–3 hours before an international flight — check your airline's advice. For a 14:00 flight, for example, a pick-up in Hisarönü at around 10:00 is a sensible choice; in peak season, allow a little extra.
