Fethiye sits on a wide, island-dotted bay in south-west Turkey, on the stretch of coast once known as Lycia. It is a real town with a harbour, a market and year-round residents, not just a resort. Ölüdeniz lies just over the hills to the south: a long beach and a sheltered lagoon of pale turquoise water, framed by pine-covered slopes and the bulk of Babadağ.
Between the two, the villages of Ovacık and Hisarönü line the road, while Çalış is the long beach on Fethiye's northern edge. Together they make one of the most varied holiday areas on the Turkish coast: history, beaches, mountain views and boat days all within a short drive.
