Quick answer: which Fethiye area suits you?

Fethiye is not one resort but a cluster of very different places within half an hour of each other. Pick the base that matches how you want to spend most days:

  • Fethiye town – harbour life, restaurants, the market and daily boat trips; the beach is not on your doorstep.
  • Çalış – a long beach and promenade just north of town, easy and flat, with sunsets over the bay.
  • Ölüdeniz – the Blue Lagoon, Belcekız beach and paragliding; the postcard view of the region.
  • Hisarönü – lively hill village with bars and restaurants, a short drive above Ölüdeniz.
  • Ovacık – the calmer neighbour of Hisarönü at the foot of Babadağ.
  • Kayaköy, Faralya, Göcek – quiet valley, cliff-top hiking base and yacht bays.

Fethiye town: harbour, promenade and rock tombs

Fethiye town wraps around a sheltered harbour lined with a long seafront promenade. Gulets leave from here for the twelve-island boat trips, and the evening walk along the water is one of the pleasures of staying in town. Above the streets you see the Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliff, including the Tomb of Amyntas, which you can reach on foot from the centre.

The old quarter (Paspatur) is full of small shops and restaurants, the fish market is a classic place for dinner, and the weekly town market fills several streets. Stay here if you like having everything walkable, plan several boat days or travel outside the peak beach months. The downside: for a proper sandy beach you will take a short ride to Çalış or Ölüdeniz. From Dalaman Airport the drive is ≈ 55 km / 55 min — see the route page Dalaman Airport to Fethiye for live prices.

Çalış: long beach and sunsets north of town

Çalış lies on the bay just north of Fethiye town. Its long beach, backed by a flat promenade, is ideal for walks, cycling and pushchairs, and the sun sets straight over the water, which gives the area its reputation for evenings outdoors. Hotels, apartments and villas sit in low-rise streets behind the beach.

Çalış is a good fit for families, longer stays and anyone who wants the sea a few steps away while still being close to the town for shopping and boat trips. The sea here is more open than the lagoon at Ölüdeniz, so on windy afternoons it can be choppier. From Dalaman Airport it is ≈ 49 km / 50 min, slightly shorter than the drive into Fethiye centre.

Ölüdeniz: Blue Lagoon, Belcekız beach and paragliding

Ölüdeniz is the classic postcard view of Fethiye: a calm, turquoise lagoon (the Blue Lagoon, a protected natural area) next to the long Belcekız beach, with pine-covered mountains rising behind. Babadağ, the mountain above the bay, is one of the best-known paragliding sites in Turkey, and you will see gliders landing on the beach throughout the day.

Stay in Ölüdeniz if beach days are the priority and you want to walk to the sea every morning. The resort is compact, so choice of accommodation is more limited than in Hisarönü or town, and in high season the beach is busy. Boat trips also leave from here, so you lose little by not staying in Fethiye centre. From Dalaman Airport it is ≈ 63 km / 70 min; the last stretch winds down from the hills to the coast.

Hisarönü and Ovacık: the hill villages above Ölüdeniz

Hisarönü and Ovacık sit next to each other on the plateau between Fethiye town and Ölüdeniz, a few minutes' drive above the beach. Hisarönü is the lively one: a central strip of bars, restaurants and shops that stays busy late into the night in summer. Ovacık is quieter and greener, with more villas and smaller hotels, and lies at the foot of Babadağ.

Both are practical bases: you get a wide choice of places to stay, cooler evenings than on the coast and easy access to both Ölüdeniz and Fethiye town. The trade-off is that the sea is not within walking distance, so you will use dolmuş minibuses, taxis or a car for beach days. Drive times from Dalaman Airport: Ovacık ≈ 61 km / 65 min, Hisarönü ≈ 64 km / 65 min.

Quieter options: Kayaköy, Faralya and Göcek

  • Kayaköy – a valley village next to an abandoned stone town of hundreds of empty houses, left after the 1923 population exchange. Stay here for silence, walking and stone guesthouses; you need transport for the beach. ≈ 63 km / 70 min from Dalaman Airport.
  • Faralya – a cliff-top village above Butterfly Valley, on the route of the Lycian Way. Ideal for hikers and those who want views over the sea and very little else. The road is narrow and winding: ≈ 79 km / 95 min from the airport.
  • Göcek – a small harbour town of marinas and sheltered yacht bays, and a base for sailing trips. It is the closest of all these areas to the airport, ≈ 25 km / 25 min, ideal for a short stay or a late arrival.

If you are still comparing coastlines, our guide Marmaris, İçmeler or Turunç covers the other side of Dalaman Airport.

Getting there from Dalaman Airport

All these areas are served from Dalaman Airport (DLM), not Antalya. With a private transfer your driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign, tracks your flight and waits free of charge if it is delayed. The price is fixed per vehicle, not per person, and agreed before the trip — no night surcharge and no luggage fee. You pay in the vehicle, with no prepayment, and cancellation is free.

Choose a Minivan (1–6), a VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito (1–7) or a Mercedes Sprinter (8–16) for larger groups — see the fleet. Child seats are free on request, and you can book the return transfer at the same time. Our Dalaman Airport arrival guide explains the steps from landing to the car, and the booking form or WhatsApp gives you a fixed-price quote within 1 minute, 24/7.
