Mermerli Beach Transfer: How to Get There by Private Car

Mermerli is one of the few places where you can swim right in the centre of Antalya. The beach lies below the city walls of Kaleiçi, the old town, right beside the historic harbour. It is small — a narrow strip of sand and pebbles beneath the cliffs — but the setting is special: clear water, the old harbour with its wooden boats on one side and the Beydağları mountains across the bay on the other.

The beach is reached on foot from the lanes of Kaleiçi, down a flight of steps. Because space is limited it fills up quickly on summer days, so it suits a swim combined with a walk through the old town rather than a long day on the sand.

From Antalya Airport (AYT) Mermerli is only about 16 km away, roughly 30 minutes by road depending on city traffic. The route runs along the main boulevards towards the city centre and the edge of Kaleiçi.

The streets inside the old town are narrow and many are closed to traffic, so your driver drops you at the nearest accessible point on the edge of Kaleiçi — for example near Hadrian's Gate or the main avenue above the harbour — and from there it is a short walk downhill. Pick-up is arranged at the same kind of point.

From Lara and Konyaaltı the drive is short. From Belek and the Kemer coast (Beldibi, Göynük, Kemer, Kiriş, Çamyuva, Tekirova) it is a longer trip along the D400 highway, and from Side or Alanya it is a full excursion.

In midsummer, come in the morning, when the beach is quieter and the old town lanes are still cool, or in the late afternoon for the light over the harbour. Midday is hot and crowded.

• Bring swim shoes, sunscreen and a small bag — you will be walking on steps and cobbles.
• Wear comfortable shoes for the old town; flip-flops slip on the polished stones.
• Keep valuables to a minimum on a busy beach.
