The tour at a glance
This day heads into the Taurus Mountains north of Side and Manavgat, where the river Köprüçay has carved deep canyons into the limestone. Jeeps take on the forest and gravel roads that ordinary cars avoid. It suits travellers who like landscapes, photography and a bit of adventure, combined with a genuine ancient site far from the crowds.
- Tazı Canyon – also known as the Valley of Wisdom, a narrow canyon with sheer rock walls several hundred metres high near the village of Ağaçlı. From the viewing terrace at the edge you look straight down into the gorge, one of the most striking views in the region.
- Selge Ancient Theatre – Selge was a Pisidian city in the mountains at around 1,000 metres, today the village of Altınkaya inside Köprülü Canyon National Park. Its theatre, built into the hillside, once held about 10,000 spectators and looks out over the peaks. Around it lie remains of the agora, temples and city walls, and the hills are dotted with strange eroded rock formations.
- Jeep route – the drive follows winding mountain roads through pine and cedar forest, often unpaved, with the Roman Oluk bridge over the Köprüçay gorge along the way.
- Photo stops – regular stops at viewpoints over the canyons, the river and the mountains.

How the day runs
The tour takes about 8 hours door to door. From Side and Manavgat the drive to the mountains is fairly short; from Antalya, Kemer or Alanya it is longer. A typical day looks like this, though the order of the stops can change:
- Pickup from your hotel and drive towards the mountains, where you change to the jeeps.
- Jeep drive on mountain roads to Tazı Canyon and time at the viewing terrace.
- Continue through the Köprülü Canyon area, crossing the Oluk bridge, with photo stops above the river.
- Climb up to Altınkaya and visit the theatre and ruins of Selge.
- A break for lunch on the way.
- Jeep drive back down, change to our vehicle and return to your hotel.
Good to know
The jeep roads are dusty and bumpy, so wear clothes that can get dirty, closed shoes and sunglasses; a scarf or buff against the dust helps. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water, as there is little shade at the viewpoints. At Selge the ground is uneven and stony, and the mountain air is cooler than the coast in spring and autumn.
The jeeps are driven by the operator's team; keep your seatbelt on, stay seated while driving and follow the instructions of the drivers. The bumpy ride is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with back or neck problems. At the canyon edge stay behind the railings and keep children close. Children of school age usually love the jeep part; for toddlers and older travellers with limited mobility a gentler tour may be the better choice.
