Sığacık is a small harbour village on the Aegean coast, just outside the town of Seferihisar in İzmir province. Its heart is a walled settlement built around an Ottoman-era castle, where stone houses, narrow lanes covered with vines and bougainvillea, and little shops sit right next to the fishing boats and the marina. Seferihisar was the first town in Turkey to join the Cittaslow (slow city) network, and that unhurried spirit is exactly what draws people here.

The route is about 48 km and usually takes around 50 minutes. From the airport south of İzmir, the car heads south-west across the plain and through gentle hills towards Seferihisar, then continues the last few kilometres down to the coast at Sığacık. The roads are good and the drive is calm, with views of olive groves and, at the end, the sea.

When you leave baggage claim, your driver is waiting in the arrivals hall with a name sign and helps you with your luggage. We track your flight, so if you land early or late the pick-up time moves with it, and there is no charge for waiting on delays. Sığacık is a relaxed base with plenty to discover nearby:

• The castle quarter and harbour – stroll the lanes, watch the boats and enjoy fish restaurants by the water.

• Akkum beach – a sandy bay a short drive away, popular with windsurfers.
• Urla – vineyards, olive oil and a charming old centre on the way to the Çeşme peninsula.
• Çeşme and Alaçatı – the castle and harbour of Çeşme and the stone houses and windmills of Alaçatı.

The drive back to the airport takes about 50 minutes. Aim to be at the airport 2 to 3 hours before an international flight — check your airline's advice. For a 15:00 flight, for example, a pick-up in Sığacık at around 11:30 leaves a comfortable margin. The driver collects you from the same point where you were dropped off.
