Saklıkent is Antalya's own ski area, set high on Bakırlı Dağı in the Taurus mountains that rise behind the city. It is a small, local ski centre rather than a big Alpine resort, and its special appeal is the contrast: on a clear winter day you can look down towards the coast from the snow and be back beside the sea the same afternoon.

There is snow only in the winter months, and how much there is changes from year to year, so skiing and snow play always depend on the weather. Visitors include local skiers and snowboarders, families who want their children to see and play in snow, and holidaymakers looking for a different day out. Please note: this is not the Saklıkent gorge near Fethiye, which is a canyon far to the west and a completely different trip.

From Antalya Airport (AYT) it is about 70 km and around 1 hour 30 minutes to the ski centre. The first part crosses the city towards the west; then the road leaves the coast and climbs into the mountains on a long, winding mountain road. This climb is what takes the time, and in winter it can be affected by snow or ice.

If you fly in and want to go up the mountain the same day, your driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign; we track your flight and waiting on delays is free. Most guests start from their hotel, though: from Konyaaltı and the city the drive is shortest, while from Lara, Belek, Kemer or Side it takes longer. Tell us where you are staying and we tell you the timing.

A mountain trip in winter needs a little more planning than a beach transfer. When you contact us, tell us your date, how many people are coming and how long you want to stay. Then we agree on:

• The driver waits at the ski centre and brings you back when you are ready to leave.
• The driver comes back at a set time, if you want a full day on the slopes.
• A flexible start time so you travel when the road conditions are best.

Snow and road conditions are checked close to the day; if the weather makes the trip unwise, we tell you honestly and you can move the date, as cancellation is free. The great thing about Saklıkent is that the mountains and the coast are so close. A private car with driver makes it easy to combine them:

• A morning in the snow, then a walk along Konyaaltı beach in the afternoon.
• Back down the mountain to Kaleiçi, the old town, for dinner; the car may stop at the nearest accessible point.
• A stop at the Upper Düden Waterfall in the north of the city on a different day or if time allows.

Families often find that a few hours of snow is plenty for small children, so a shorter mountain visit followed by time in the city works well. Tell us the plan and we tell you what fits comfortably into the daylight hours.

A ski day and a flight on the same day is a tight combination. If you must, remember to be at Antalya Airport about 2.5 to 3 hours before an international flight (check your airline's advice) and leave a generous margin for the mountain road.
