Bodrum Hotels by Area 2026: Which Part of the Peninsula?

On the Bodrum peninsula the area you stay in shapes your holiday more than the hotel does: Bodrum town and Gümbet are lively, Bitez and Ortakent are relaxed beach bays, Turgutreis is a town of its own in the west, and Yalıkavak, Türkbükü and Torba sit on the greener north coast. Bodrum town is about 36 km from Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV); every other area lies further along the peninsula roads.

First choose the coast, then the hotel

The Bodrum peninsula juts into the Aegean west of the airport. Its south coast, from Bodrum town through Gümbet, Bitez and Ortakent to Turgutreis, faces the open sea and has the longer beaches. Its north coast, with Yalıkavak, Gündoğan, Türkbükü and Torba, is more indented, greener and generally calmer, with many small bays and wooden jetties instead of wide sand.

Distances on the peninsula are not huge, but the roads are winding and busy in July and August. If you plan to spend evenings in Bodrum town, staying at the far western or northern tip means a taxi or transfer every time. If you want quiet, staying right in town means music late into the night. Decide which of these matters more before comparing hotels.

Bodrum town and Gümbet: in the middle of things

Bodrum town wraps around two bays below the Castle of St Peter, with the marina on one side and the old harbour quarter of whitewashed houses all around. You can walk to restaurants, the waterfront and the castle, and the evening scene is the busiest on the peninsula. Town beaches are small; you stay here for atmosphere rather than for sand. It is about 36 km from the airport, the shortest transfer on the peninsula.

Gümbet is the next bay to the west, so close to town that many visitors walk or take a short ride in. It has a reputation for nightlife and a younger crowd, a shallow bay and plenty of water sports. Light sleepers and families with small children usually prefer to stay a bay or two further on.

Bitez and Ortakent: beach bays for slower days

Bitez lies just beyond Gümbet but feels very different. A promenade runs along the beach, the hills behind are covered in citrus gardens, and the steady afternoon wind makes the bay known for windsurfing. It suits couples and families who want to be near town without sleeping in it.

Ortakent, with Yahşi beach, has one of the longer stretches of sand on the south coast. The village sits slightly inland and the coast is spread out and relaxed, with a more local, residential feel. If you mainly want to swim, read and have dinner by the sea, Ortakent is worth a look.

Turgutreis: a town at the western tip

Turgutreis is a real town rather than a resort, with its own marina, a long seafront, shops and plenty of holiday apartments. It is known for its sunsets over the scattered islands to the west. Because everything you need is in walking distance, it works well for longer stays and for families who like to self-cater.

The trade-off is distance: Turgutreis is near the end of the peninsula, so the airport drive and any evening in Bodrum town take noticeably longer than from Bitez or Gümbet. Nearby Akyarlar and Gümüşlük are smaller and quieter alternatives on the same side.

Yalıkavak, Türkbükü and Torba: the north coast

Yalıkavak grew from a quiet fishing village into one of the smartest addresses on the peninsula. Its large marina attracts yachts and has upmarket restaurants and shops, while old windmills stand on the hill above. It is a good base for couples and for anyone who prefers marina life to beach crowds.

Türkbükü is a small bay further east known for its summer beach clubs on wooden piers, chic restaurants and a glamorous evening scene. It is lively in high season and very quiet out of it.

Torba is a calm bay on the north-east side, a short drive from Bodrum town and on the airport side of the peninsula. It suits travellers who want a peaceful base but still want town within easy reach.

Getting there from Milas-Bodrum Airport

Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is north-east of the peninsula, about 36 km from Bodrum town. Antalya Airport is not a practical alternative: the road to Bodrum is around 433 km.
