The trip back to the airport
The way back starts with the descent: a winding road down through the forest from the Taurus mountains to the coast near Manavgat, then west along the coast to Antalya Airport. In total that is about 132 km and around 2 h 30 min at the wheel.
On a mountain road it is wise not to plan to the minute. Weather, a slow lorry on the bends or summer traffic on the coast can all add time, so we build a margin into the pick-up time rather than cutting it fine.
When to set off
Plan to be at the airport about 2–3 hours before an international flight, and check your airline's advice. A worked example:
- Your flight leaves at 14:00.
- Aim to arrive at the airport around 11:00–11:30.
- With about 2 h 30 min on the road plus a little reserve for the mountain section, the pick-up in İbradı is at about 08:30.
If your flight leaves very early in the morning, consider spending the last night nearer the airport, for example on the coast or in Antalya, so you are not on the mountain road in the middle of the night. That is only advice: we drive at any hour, and an early start costs the same.
