Turgutreis is the largest town on the western side of the Bodrum peninsula, named after the Ottoman admiral whose statue stands on the seafront. Unlike the small bays around it, it is a real town with year-round residents, shops, a busy market area and a long promenade. Its marina is one of the biggest on the peninsula, and the coast faces west towards a scatter of islands, which is why Turgutreis is famous for its sunsets.

The town attracts a broad mix of visitors: families who like having supermarkets, cafés and the beach within walking distance, sailors using the marina, and many European and Turkish owners of holiday homes who come back every year. It is livelier than the quiet coves of the south-west but calmer than Bodrum town.

The transfer covers about 55 km and usually takes just under an hour. From Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) the driver takes the main road towards Bodrum, passes the Torba junction, goes around Bodrum town and then follows the peninsula road west through Bitez and Ortakent to Turgutreis. On summer Saturdays, when many holiday rentals change over, the roads around Bodrum can be busier.

Turgutreis has a wide choice of places to stay. Along the seafront and around the marina there are hotels and apartment buildings close to the promenade. Neighbouring areas such as Akçaalan and Kadıkalesi add quieter holiday villages a few minutes away.

The driver brings you to the door of your accommodation. For villas and apartment estates, please send the exact address or a location pin when you book; some estates have a security gate or steep inner roads, and in that case the driver stops at the nearest accessible point and carries on with you on foot with the luggage.

Watching the sun go down from the seafront promenade is the local ritual, followed by dinner near the marina. With a private car and driver, the rest of the peninsula is easy to reach:

• Gümüşlük, a short drive north: a fishing village with waterside restaurants and the remains of ancient Myndos.
• Akyarlar to the south: a sandy bay where the wind draws kitesurfers.

• Yalıkavak on the north-west coast: marina, shops and restaurants.

Airlines usually ask passengers to be at the airport about 2 to 3 hours before an international departure, so please check your airline's advice. Example: for a flight at 15:00 you would plan to arrive at Milas-Bodrum Airport around 12:30.
