Olympos is a valley on the coast south of Kemer, inside the Beydağları Coastal National Park, where a stream runs through pine and laurel woods down to a wide pebble beach. The valley is named after the ancient Lycian city of Olympos, whose ruins lie scattered among the trees near the sea: temples, tombs, a theatre and harbour walls, many half-hidden by plants.

For decades, Olympos has been famous for its simple wooden bungalows and "tree houses", which turned it into a favourite with backpackers, students and nature lovers. Today the valley also has more comfortable guesthouses, but the spirit is still relaxed and informal. People come for the beach, the ruins, walks on the Lycian Way and the climbing cliffs above the valley, and to enjoy evenings in the garden restaurants of the pensions.

The transfer from Antalya Airport (AYT) to Olympos is about 88 km and takes around 105 minutes. The driver takes the coastal highway past Konyaaltı, Beldibi, Kemer and Tekirova and continues south through the forested hills. Near the end, the vehicle leaves the main road and follows a narrow, winding road down into the Olympos valley, where most bungalows and guesthouses line the way towards the beach.

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign, takes care of your luggage and leads you to the vehicle. We track your flight, so an early or delayed arrival is not a problem and waiting on delays is free. The price is fixed per vehicle and agreed before you travel, with no night surcharge and no luggage fee, which is useful if your flight lands late in the evening.

Almost all accommodation in Olympos lies along the valley road, within walking distance of the ancient site and the beach. You will find:

• the classic bungalow and tree-house camps with shared gardens;
• small guesthouses and family pensions with simple, comfortable rooms;
• a few boutique-style places further up the valley.

The driver takes you to the entrance of your accommodation. Some pensions are reached by short unpaved tracks, so the vehicle may stop at the nearest accessible point while the driver helps with your bags. The ruins of ancient Olympos stretch along both banks of the stream right down to the sea, and exploring them among the trees is one of the highlights of a stay. From the beach you can walk north along the shore to Çıralı, and from there climb to the Chimaera (Yanartaş), where natural flames burn from the rocks; the walk is especially popular in the evening.

• the cable car up Tahtalı Mountain, the ancient Mount Olympos;

Allow around 105 minutes for the drive back and aim to be at Antalya Airport about 2.5–3 hours before an international flight; check your airline's advice. For a flight at 16:00, for example, a pick-up from Olympos at around 11:00 is sensible. Few taxis wait in the valley, so it is wise to book your return in good time.
