Kayaköy at a glance
Kayaköy is a small rural village in a green valley in the hills south of Fethiye, in Muğla province. Above it, a whole hillside is covered by the roofless stone houses of Levissi, the old Greek town that was left empty after the population exchange of 1923. Today the abandoned village, with its chapels, steps and narrow paths, is one of the most atmospheric historic sites on the Lycian coast.
Down in the valley life moves slowly: fields, vineyards, a handful of village restaurants and a growing number of restored stone houses and small boutique hotels. Kayaköy draws couples, walkers, photographers and families who prefer peace and nature to a beach strip, while Ölüdeniz and Hisarönü are only a few minutes' drive away when you want company.

From Dalaman Airport to Kayaköy
The route is about 63 km and takes around 70 minutes. From the airport it heads east past Dalaman town, through the pine-covered hills and the Göcek tunnel, then runs along the Gulf of Fethiye towards the town. On the edge of Fethiye a hill road branches off and winds up and over the ridge, dropping into the Kayaköy valley; depending on where you are staying, the driver may also come in via Hisarönü. The final stretch is narrow and twisting, so a driver who knows these lanes makes the arrival relaxed, especially after dark.
As you leave baggage claim, your driver is waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign bearing your name and helps you with your cases. We monitor your flight, so the pick-up shifts automatically if you land early or late, and there is no charge for waiting on delays. Night arrivals cost the same as daytime ones, and extra bags, hiking gear or a pushchair carry no luggage fee.
Where guests stay in Kayaköy
Accommodation here is small-scale and scattered, so please send us the exact name and a location:
- Restored stone houses – holiday homes and guesthouses in traditional buildings near the old village.
- Boutique hotels in the valley – small, quiet places among gardens and fields.
- Villas on the surrounding slopes – private villas, often with pools, reached by narrow country lanes.
Where a lane is too narrow for the vehicle, the driver stops at the nearest accessible point and helps you with the luggage for the last few steps. A map pin on WhatsApp is the best way to make sure we find your gate.
Things to do from Kayaköy
The village itself is the main sight, but there is plenty more within easy reach:
- The abandoned village – wander the stone lanes of old Levissi, ideally in the soft light of morning or late afternoon.
- The old path to Ölüdeniz – a well-known walk over the hill from Kayaköy down to the lagoon.
- Gemiler – a quiet bay below the valley, facing a small island with Byzantine remains.
- Ölüdeniz and Hisarönü – the Blue Lagoon, paragliding from Babadağ, and restaurants and evening life.
- Fethiye – the harbour, the fish market, the rock tomb of Amyntas and the remains of ancient Telmessos.
For a private day trip to Saklıkent Gorge, the ruins of Tlos or the beach at Patara, send us your plan on WhatsApp and we will arrange a vehicle with a driver.
Returning to Dalaman Airport
The drive back takes a little over an hour. Plan to be at Dalaman Airport about 2–3 hours before an international flight — check your airline's advice. For a 16:00 flight, for example, a pick-up in Kayaköy at around 12:00 is a comfortable choice; add a little margin in high season, when the coast road is busier.
It is easiest to book your arrival and return together. Vehicles:
- Minivan – 1 to 6 passengers with luggage.
- VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito – 1 to 7 passengers, extra comfort on the winding roads.
- Mercedes Sprinter – 8 to 16 passengers, for families travelling together or walking groups.
Child seats are free on request; please tell us the children's ages when you book.
