Çıralı is a small, green village on the coast south of Tekirova, tucked between forested mountains and a long beach of sand and pebbles. It is one of the quietest places on the Antalya coast: there are no high-rise hotels, only low guesthouses, bungalows and boutique hotels set among orange and lemon gardens. The beach is a protected nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta), which is one reason the village has stayed so calm.

Çıralı is also known for two famous neighbours: the ruins of ancient Olympos at the southern end of the beach and the natural flames of the Chimaera (Yanartaş) on the hillside above. The drive from Antalya Airport (AYT) to Çıralı is about 85 km and takes around 100 minutes. The driver follows the coastal highway past Konyaaltı, Beldibi and Kemer, continues south past Tekirova and then leaves the main road to wind down a narrow road through the forest to the village and the sea. That last stretch is slow but very pretty, and it is where a driver who knows the area is especially useful.

Your driver waits for you in arrivals with a name sign, helps with the luggage and walks you to the vehicle. We track your flight, so an early or late landing is no problem and waiting on delays is free. Accommodation in Çıralı lies along one main road that runs parallel to the beach, with small side tracks leading to guesthouses in the gardens. Typical choices include:

• holiday houses on the edge of the village towards the hills.

The most famous outing is the walk up to the Chimaera, where small flames burn from the rocks on the mountainside; many visitors go in the evening, when the flames are easiest to see. At the southern end of the beach, the ruins of Olympos lie in a shady valley along a stream, with temples, tombs and walls among the trees.

By private car you can also reach:

• Ulupınar, a cool valley with streams and trout restaurants;
• the cable car to the top of Tahtalı Mountain and the ancient city of Phaselis;
• the quiet bay of Adrasan, from where boats go out to the coves and islands;
• Demre, with the Church of St Nicholas and the rock tombs of Myra.

For the return, allow around 100 minutes of driving and aim to be at Antalya Airport about 2.5–3 hours before an international flight; check your airline's advice. For example, for a flight at 13:00, a pick-up from Çıralı at around 08:15 is a sensible choice.
