Tahtalı Cable Car (Olympos Teleferik): How to Get There

The Olympos cable car takes you to the summit of Tahtalı mountain, at about 2,365 m, from a lower station in the forest above Tekirova and Çamyuva near Kemer. The easiest way to get there is by car or private transfer up the mountain road, ideally on a clear morning with a warm layer in your bag.

What is the Tahtalı cable car?

Tahtalı Dağı is the highest mountain on the Kemer coast and is often linked with the mythical Mount Olympos of the ancient Lycians, which is why the cable car is widely known as Olympos Teleferik. A cable car carries visitors from the forested foothills to the summit at about 2,365 m. From the top you look down on the coastline from Antalya towards Kemer and Tekirova, over the Taurus range and, on clear days, far out to sea.

The ride itself is part of the experience: you rise from pine forest to bare rock in one long climb, and the temperature changes noticeably on the way.

Where is the lower station?

The lower station is not on the beach. It lies inland in the forest above Tekirova and Çamyuva, reached by a winding mountain road that branches off the main coastal road. There is no reason to try to walk there from the coast; plan to arrive by car, tour vehicle or private transfer.

From the Kemer-area hotels the drive to the lower station is short. From Antalya city, Lara, Belek or Side it is a full day out, so think of it as an excursion rather than a quick stop. For reference, Tekirova is about 70 km and 85 minutes from Antalya Airport.

Weather, clothing and the best time of day

  • Bring a layer, even in summer. At over 2,000 m it is much cooler than on the beach, and the summit is often windy. A light jacket or fleece makes the visit far more pleasant.
  • Go early if you can. Clear mornings often give the best views; haze and clouds tend to build up later in the day.
  • Check it is running. The cable car can stop in strong wind or bad weather. Check the operator's official information on the day and look up current tickets online before you set off.
  • Sun protection. The sun is strong at altitude: sunglasses, a hat and sun cream are useful.
  • Shoes. Wear closed shoes rather than beach sandals; the ground at the top can be rocky.

Getting there with a private transfer

A private transfer is the simplest option, especially for families or groups who do not want to drive mountain roads. Your driver picks you up at your hotel and takes you directly to the lower station. Whether the driver waits for you or comes back at an agreed time can be arranged when you book, so tell us your plans in advance.

  • From Kemer, Kiriş, Çamyuva or Tekirova: a short half-day trip.
  • From Beldibi or Göynük: still easy to combine with a relaxed afternoon.
  • From Antalya, Lara, Belek or Side: plan a full day and combine it with another sight on the same coast.

Our vehicles are Minivans for up to 6 people, VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito for up to 7 and Mercedes Sprinter for groups of 8 to 16. The price is fixed per vehicle, agreed before the trip, and you pay in the vehicle. Message us on WhatsApp or use the booking form with your hotel, date and group size; you can also see our tours.

Combine it with Phaselis or Olympos

The cable car pairs well with the other highlights at the southern end of the Kemer coast:

  • Phaselis – the ancient harbour city near Tekirova, with ruins along a paved main street and pine-shaded bays for a swim. A summit visit in the morning and Phaselis in the afternoon is a classic combination.
  • Olympos and Çıralı – ruins in a green valley that opens onto a long beach, a little further south.
  • The Chimaera (Yanartaş) – natural flames on the hillside above Çıralı, best seen towards dusk.

A sample day

Here is how many visitors plan a relaxed day from a Kemer-area hotel:

  1. Morning: early breakfast, pick-up at the hotel and the drive up the forest road to the lower station.
  2. Late morning: ride to the summit, enjoy the views while the air is still clear and take your photos before the clouds build up.
  3. Lunch: back down to the coast for a meal in Tekirova or Kemer.
  4. Afternoon: a walk and a swim at Phaselis, or a slower afternoon on your hotel beach.
  5. Optional evening: continue south to Çıralı and walk up to the Chimaera flames at dusk.

Guests coming from Antalya or Belek usually keep the same order but start earlier, as the drive along the coast takes longer.

Planning tips

  • Plan the cable car on a day with a good forecast and keep a flexible alternative day if your holiday allows it.
  • If you travel with small children, bring warm clothes for them too; the change in temperature is bigger than many expect.
  • Allow extra time in high season, when the coastal road and the station are busier.
  • If you are staying in Tekirova, check the Antalya Airport to Tekirova route for your arrival transfer as well.
