The tour at a glance

The hamam is one of the oldest bathing traditions of Anatolia, a descendant of the Roman baths that the Seljuks and Ottomans turned into a social ritual. At its centre is the hot room: a domed hall with a heated marble platform, the göbek taşı, where you lie down to warm up and let the steam open your pores before the attendant gets to work. It is relaxing rather than strenuous, and many guests like it on their first day to shake off the journey or at the end of the holiday, just before the flight home.

  • Sauna – dry heat to warm the body and start the relaxation.
  • Steam room – humid warmth that softens the skin for the scrub.
  • Kese and foam massage – an attendant exfoliates your skin with a rough mitt, then covers you in a thick layer of soap foam and washes you with bowls of warm water.
  • Oil massage – a calm massage with oil to finish, after which you rest with a cup of tea.

It suits couples, friends, families with older children and anyone who wants a quiet break from the sun.

How the visit runs

The whole outing takes about 2–3 hours including the transfers. A typical visit looks like this:

  • Pickup from your hotel and a short drive to the hamam.
  • Changing into swimwear or the traditional cotton wrap (peştemal) and locking away your belongings.
  • Time in the sauna and the steam room, then on the warm marble stone.
  • Kese scrub and foam massage by the attendant, followed by a rinse.
  • Oil massage and a rest in the relaxation area.
  • Return drive to your hotel.

The order of the steps and the length of each treatment can vary from one hamam to another.

Good to know

Bring swimwear, a change of underwear and a comb or brush; you can leave valuables at the hotel. Do not come straight after a heavy meal or alcohol, and drink water before and after, because the heat makes you sweat a lot. Avoid the scrub on fresh sunburn – it is better to plan the hamam before a beach day or after your skin has calmed down.

Heat and steam are not recommended for everyone. If you are pregnant, have heart or blood pressure problems, or any other health condition, ask your doctor first and tell the attendants. Whether and from what age children can take part depends on the hamam, so ask us when you book. Tell the masseur if the pressure is too strong. Photography is usually not welcome inside the bath areas out of respect for other guests.

Pickup and transport

We pick you up from your hotel and bring you back afterwards, from the resorts of the Antalya region – Lara, Kundu, Konyaaltı, Belek, Side, Kemer, Alanya and the places in between. The pickup time depends on where your hotel is and is given to you when you book.

You travel in our own vehicles: a minivan of the VW Caravelle class, a VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito or a Mercedes Sprinter for larger parties. If you prefer a private version with only your own group, just ask. Child seats are free on request.
