Antalya Old City, Waterfalls, Cable Car & Boat Tour

This day shows Antalya from four different angles: on foot in the old town, at the waterfalls, from the top of a mountain and from the water. It suits first-time visitors, couples and families who want to see the whole city in one day without long drives between the stops.

• Kaleiçi Old Town – the walled historic quarter with narrow lanes, Ottoman-era houses with wooden bay windows and small courtyards; you enter through Hadrian's Gate, the triple-arched marble gate built around 130 AD, and the fluted Yivli Minaret from the Seljuk period rises above the roofs.
• Düden Waterfall – the Düden river ends its course by falling off the cliffs at Lara straight into the Mediterranean; depending on the programme you may also see the shaded park around the Upper Düden falls.
• Tünektepe Cable Car – the cable car climbs from the western edge of the city to the summit of Tünektepe, about 600 metres above the sea, with wide views over Konyaaltı beach, the city, the bay and the Taurus Mountains.
• Boat tour – a short boat trip from the old harbour along the cliffs of the city, with views of the old walls from the sea.

The tour takes about 9 hours door to door. The order of the stops can change with traffic, weather and the season, but a typical day looks like this:

• Pickup from your hotel and drive to Antalya.
• Walk through Hadrian's Gate into Kaleiçi, with time for the lanes, photos and a coffee.
• Down to the old harbour for the boat trip along the coast.
• A break for lunch in the city.
• Visit to the Düden waterfall.
• Drive to the lower station of the cable car and ride up to Tünektepe for the views over Konyaaltı and the bay.
• Return drive to your hotel in the late afternoon or early evening.

Kaleiçi is best explored on foot: the old stone lanes slope down to the harbour and have steps in places, so wear comfortable shoes. In summer the city is hot at midday, so bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. On the boat and at the top of Tünektepe it can be windy, and a light layer is useful outside the summer months.

The cable car cabins are closed and the ride is calm, but anyone with a strong fear of heights should know about it in advance. In strong wind the cable car or the boat may pause, in which case the programme is adjusted. For photography, the summit of Tünektepe gives the widest panorama, and the harbour looks best from the boat. The pace is moderate, so the tour suits children and older travellers; keep small children close at the cliff edges by the falls.
