The workshop at a glance
Kaleiçi is the historic heart of Antalya: narrow lanes inside the old city walls, entered through the marble Hadrian's Gate, with restored Ottoman houses, courtyards and small craft workshops. Colourful mosaic lamps hang in many of its shop windows, and in this workshop you make one with your own hands.
- Mosaic design – you choose the shape of your lamp and the colours, then place small pieces of coloured glass and beads on the glass body to form your pattern, from simple stripes to detailed Ottoman-style motifs.
- Local workshop – you work at a table in a small old-town craft studio, with the workshop team showing each step and helping where needed.
- Tea break – a short pause with Turkish tea in the middle of the session, as listed for this workshop.
- Take-home lamp – once the pattern is finished and the gaps are filled, your lamp is yours to take home.
No artistic experience is needed. It suits couples, friends and small groups, families with children who enjoy crafts and anyone looking for a relaxed, creative break from the beach.
Booking
How the experience runs
The workshop itself lasts about 2 hours; with the transfers the total time depends on where your hotel is. A typical flow:
- Pickup from your hotel and drive into Antalya city centre.
- Short walk into Kaleiçi to the workshop.
- Choosing your lamp and colours, then gluing the glass pieces piece by piece.
- Tea break, then finishing the pattern and filling the joints so the colours stand out.
- Return drive to your hotel with your lamp.
A stroll through the old town lanes or down to the old harbour fits in easily before or after the workshop – just mention it when you book.
Good to know
The work is calm and done sitting at a table, but it needs patience and some fine finger work; wear clothes you do not mind getting a little grout or glue on. Kaleiçi has stone-paved, sloping lanes, so wear comfortable shoes, and in summer bring a hat, sunscreen and water for the short walk.
The activity suits older travellers well. Children can take part with an adult helping them; follow the workshop team's instructions, as glass pieces can have sharp edges. Photos of your lamp in progress make a nice souvenir. For the flight home, wrap the lamp well in soft clothing and keep it in your hand luggage if possible.
Pickup and transport
We pick you up from your hotel and bring you back afterwards, from the resorts of the Antalya region – Lara, Kundu, Konyaaltı, Belek, Side, Kemer, Alanya and the places in between; from the far ends of the coast the drive is naturally longer. The pickup time depends on where your hotel is and is given to you when you book.
You travel in our own vehicles: a minivan of the VW Caravelle class, a VIP Mercedes-Benz Vito or a Mercedes Sprinter for larger parties. If you prefer a private version with only your own group, just ask. Child seats are free on request.
