Finike is a small, down-to-earth harbour town on the Lycian coast in the far south-west of Antalya province, between Kumluca and Demre. Across Turkey its name is linked with oranges: the plain behind the town is covered with citrus groves, and the Finike orange is one of the best-known in the country. The town has a working fishing harbour, a marina popular with sailing yachts, and a long beach that stretches east of the centre.

Finike is not a package-holiday resort. Visitors are mostly independent travellers, sailors, walkers on the Lycian Way, families visiting relatives and people who own or rent a holiday home along the coast. It is also a convenient base for the ancient sites of the region, which are less crowded than the big names further east.

The transfer from Antalya Airport (AYT) to Finike covers about 115 km and takes around 130 minutes. Your driver follows the coastal highway west and south past Konyaaltı, Beldibi, Kemer and Tekirova, then through the pine-covered hills behind Olympos and across the greenhouse plain of Kumluca before reaching Finike bay. The road is good, but long sections wind through the mountains, so the drive is calm rather than fast.

When you land, the driver is waiting in the arrivals hall with a name sign, helps with your luggage and walks you to the vehicle. We follow your flight, so if it lands early or late the driver adjusts, and waiting on delays costs nothing extra. The price is fixed per vehicle and agreed in advance, with no night surcharge and no luggage fee.

Accommodation in Finike is varied and mostly small-scale:

• town hotels and guesthouses near the harbour and the marina;
• apartments and holiday homes along the beach road east of the centre;
• village houses and farm stays among the orange groves and in the hills inland.

If a lane is too narrow, the vehicle stops at the nearest accessible point and the driver helps with your bags.

Finike sits in the middle of ancient Lycia, and several important sites are close by. Just inland lie the ruins of Limyra, with rock tombs cut into the mountainside, and further up the valley towards Elmalı is Arykanda, a city built on terraces with wide views over the mountains.

With a private car and driver you can easily plan day trips:

• Demre, with the Church of St Nicholas and the rock tombs and theatre of Myra;
• boat trips around Kekova and its sunken ruins, starting from the coast west of Demre;
• the bay of Adrasan and the valleys of Olympos and Çıralı;
• the harbour town of Kaş further west along the coast.

Plan around 130 minutes for the drive back and try to be at Antalya Airport about 2.5–3 hours before an international flight; always check your airline's advice. For a flight at 15:00, for example, a pick-up in Finike at around 10:00 is a sensible choice. Taxis for such a long trip are not always easy to find on the day, so booking your return in advance is a good idea.
