The tour at a glance

Tahtalı Mountain, the ancient Mount Olympos of Lycia, rises to 2,365 metres just behind the coast between Kemer and Tekirova, inside the Olympos Beydağları National Park. The Olympos cable car (Olympos Teleferik) climbs from a valley station in the pine forest to the summit in one long span of more than four kilometres, making it one of the longest cable cars in Europe. The ride takes only a few minutes, but the height gained is dramatic.

At the top, the mountain panorama opens in every direction: the bays of Kemer and Phaselis below, the Antalya coast curving east and, on clear days, the long line of the Taurus peaks. Even in midsummer the air at the summit is cool, and in spring snow often lies on the slopes while people swim on the beaches below.

The summit has a terrace and a restaurant, so you can stay for a drink or a meal at your own expense and take your time with photos. The trip suits almost everyone, including families, couples and older travellers, as there is little walking involved.

Booking

How the trip runs

The outing takes about 4 to 5 hours including transfers. A typical flow:

  • Pickup from your hotel at the agreed time and the drive towards Tekirova, up a forest road to the valley station.
  • The cable car ride to the summit of Tahtalı.
  • Free time at the top for the viewing terraces, photos and a break at the restaurant.
  • The cable car back down to the valley station.
  • The drive back to your hotel.

The cable car depends on the weather: in strong wind or storms it may stop. If the forecast is poor, we suggest a different day when you book.

Good to know

  • Take a warm layer or jacket: the summit is much cooler than the coast, and it can be windy.
  • Bring sunglasses and sun cream; the sun is strong at altitude.
  • Clear mornings usually give the sharpest views; haze can build up later in the day.
  • People sensitive to heights or with heart or breathing problems should consider the rapid climb to over 2,000 metres; ask your doctor if unsure.
  • Children enjoy the ride; keep an eye on them on the open terraces.
  • The summit area is easy to walk around, though surfaces can be uneven or icy in winter and spring.

What is included (entrance tickets, meals, equipment) is confirmed when you book.
